Preseren Theatre Kranj (Presernovo Gledalisce Kranj) is one of 13 professional, nationally funded repertory theatres in Slovenia. They are the publishers for the Cankar Project.
Artistic Director of Crane Creations Andreja Kovač is a professional theatre director with over 15 years of experience directing in Slovenia moved from Slovenia to Canada in 2012 to attend the National Theatre School directing program. Upon her arrival, she sought out Ivan Cankar’s works to use during her time at school since they were ideal for a large cast and broached complex topics that are still extremely relevant today.
Cankar is regarded as the greatest writer in the Slovene language and yet is unknown in most of the world. The plays will be translated from Slovene into English by professional expert translators to allow for many more people to experience his genius.
Learning about the professional theatre/acting industry in Canada is challenging, especially as an emerging artist, or aspiring actor looking to build a career.
Surprisingly large number of actors have dyslexia, including Whoopi Goldberg and Jeniffer Anniston, and most absolutely hate cold reading.

Alenka Blake is a translator working on the first time English Translation of Ivan Cankar’s works from Slovene. They have completed the translation of the play The King of Betajnova (Kralj na Betajnovi). Read more about them below.
