ABOUT THE PLAYWRIGHT
Michel Marc Bouchard is a Canadian playwright. He started professionally writing plays in 1983 and has written over 25 plays. He has won many awards such as the Prix Journal de Montréal, Prix du Cercle des critiques de l’Outaouais, the Dora Mavor Moore Award for Outstanding New Play, the Floyd S. Chalmers Canadian Play Award, and nine Jessie Richardson Theatre Awards. Many of his plays have been turned into movies such as Lilies, The Orphan, Muses, and Tom at the Farm.
ABOUT THE PLAY
Christina, The Girl King is a biographical drama about the historical figure Christine, Queen of Sweden. Christina, crowned queen at the tender age of six, lives an extraordinary life, in a time of tumultuous time of change. A highly intelligent and rebellious spirit, Christina struggles to marry and produce and heir, her duty as queen. Instead she becomes infatuated by her lady-in-waiting. Torn between tradition and modernity, duty and passion, Christina must steer her catholic country into the Age of Reason.

Play Date is a monthly play reading activity, held on the third Thursday of each month. We read one play from around the world together. The play reading is followed by a group discussion about the play. Anyone is welcome to join and practice reading out loud, regardless of experience or level of English comprehension. With Play Date, learning English becomes fun. This is a place where you can practice speaking out loud, expand your vocabulary and meet new people.
