ABOUT THE PLAYWRIGHT
Abhishek Majumdar is an Indian playwright and director. He founded two theatre companies based in Bangalore namely; Indian Ensemble and Bhasha Centre for Performing Arts. Some of his many plays are The Djinns of Eidgah, Pah-la, Pratidwandi, Harlesden High Street, An Arrangement of Shoes, Afterlife of Birds, Rizwaan, Kaumudi, Dweepa, Muktidham, Baatin, Tathagat and Salt.
ABOUT THE PLAY
In a remote village in Tibet, a young runaway named Deshar, disowns their family and runs away to become a Buddhist nun. At the same time, in Lhasa a Chinese military commander named Deng is unable to see his wife and daughter due to work. Deng is sent to destroy the nunnery to buid a hospital and begin some political “re-education”. When Deshar disobeys the country, it sends out a ripple that forever changes the lives of Deshar, Deng and their families. Pah-La is about stories from the 2008 Lhasa riots and the future of non-violence.

Play Date is a monthly play reading activity, held on the third Thursday of each month. We read one play from around the world together. The play reading is followed by a group discussion about the play. Anyone is welcome to join and practice reading out loud, regardless of experience or level of English comprehension.
