Join master puppeteer Mohamed Fawzy Bakkar for a rare, hands-on Aragoz puppet carving workshop, exploring one of Egypt’s most iconic and centuries-old puppet traditions. Recognized by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage, the Aragoz is a bold, mischievous character traditionally performed in streets and marketplaces, captivating audiences with humor, satire, and sharp social commentary.
In this immersive workshop, participants will be guided step by step through the process of carving and shaping their own puppet, learning about traditional materials, tools, proportions, and expressive features that bring the character to life. About The Artist
Mohamed Fawzy Bakkar is a Visual Artist specializing in Puppetry Arts. He designs, builds, directs, and performs with puppets, including his exquisitely crafted marionettes. Alongside his artistic work, he is an accomplished instructor of puppetry at several respected institutions in Egypt.
Since 2021, he has taught at the Higher Institute of Folk Arts at the Academy of Arts, where he lectures in puppet design, construction, and manipulation. He also serves as an Instructor and Puppetry Specialist at the Faculty of Early Childhood Education at Sadat City University (2020–present), and teaches puppetry at the Faculty of Applied Arts at Helwan University (2018–present).
In addition to his professional teaching roles, Mohamed is completing his Master’s degree in Puppetry and Puppet Manipulation at the Higher Institute of Child Arts, Academy of Arts, specializing in performance techniques. His work blends craftsmanship, performance, and pedagogy, shaping the next generation of puppetry artists.
