The freak show has arrived in Mississauga! Escape into a dark and fantastical world filled with curiosities. Discover what monsters and mayhem lurk behind the curtain of the freak show. Enter at your own risk!

Based on Victor Hugo’s celebrated novel, “The Man Who Laughs“, this devilishly funny and offbeat puppet show from Le Théâtre la Licorne  in France, is coming to Mississauga. Great for audiences ages 13 and up. We recommend children under 13 be accompanied by an adult.

About Victor Hugo

One of the most prolific writers in the world, Victor Hugo is the mind behind literary classics such as Les Miserables, and The Hunchback of Notre-Dame. You might recognize these titles from pop culture. Les Miserables is a hit musical on broadway, and The Hunchback of Notre-Dame was adapted into a Disney animated film in the 1990’s.

Why Is Victor Hugo An Important Writer

Although Victor Hugo lived in the 1800’s, his work is still celebrated and studied all around world. Victor Hugo wrote about the human condition in a tumultuous period in France. He explores both sides human nature; human kindness and cruelty. Victor Hugo’s novels touches on themes of equality, the importance of education, criminal and social justice. His novels continue to resonate with people all over the world.

Théâtre la Licorne has more than 30 years of experience in puppetry and object theatre. La Licorne, meaning The Unicorn in English, has a taste for the impossible. Actors, visual artists and musicians work together to stretch the viewers the imagination as far as possible. 

La Licorn tinkers with ugly and discarded everyday objects transforming them into  beautiful and magical puppetry. 

Since its creation in 1986, the company has produced shows in corridors, in the street, in classrooms, in apartments, in unusual places as well as grand theatres. Nearly forty original creations have traveled the roads of France and internationally in front of an ever-increasing number of spectators.
