Seniors Play
Seniors Play is a ten-month long project engaging two hundred older adults living in Mississauga and the Region of Peel.
Seniors Play is generously supported by the Ministry for Seniors and Accessibility.
Inspiration For The Project
The inspiration for the Seniors Play project stems from a need by the local community to provide low-income, predominantly immigrant seniors with activities that connect them to the community. Crane Creations Theatre Company was motivated to design a series of acting classes, puppet making workshops, play readings, and volunteer activities that are specifically tailored for seniors to help them stay mentally and physically active.
Recognizing the need for affordable and accessible cultural activities, the project aims to reduce social isolation, foster community connections, and provide valuable information through engaging and interactive activities!
Overcoming Social Isolation and Loneliness
Social isolation and loneliness can greatly affect both physical and mental health. Having increased social connection has been linked with improvements in overall physical and mental health. Examples of social connection include meeting with others in person, volunteering, participating in community activities, and engaging in physical exercise. (Angus Reid, 2019; National Seniors Council, 2014 and 2017).
