Are you trying to get your 40 hours? Do you want to earn Canadian experience? Are you interested in bringing live theatre to your community? Volunteer with Crane Creations Theatre Company!

Cashiers, or box office attendants help audience members purchase tickets to live theatre shows. They also provide information about the show such as how long the show is. This is a customer service role responsible for providing a pleasant experience for attendees of a cultural event.

How To Apply

Applying is easy, fill out our application form and select a date for your training session. After you have attended a two hour training session, you are ready to volunteer with us! If you are collecting volunteer hours, you will receive two hours for attending training.

Summary

Position Title: Box office, Cashier, Customer Service Representative

Start Date: As Soon As Possible. This is an ongoing role with multiple chances to volunteer throughout the year. You can participate according to your availability. Signing up ensures you have first access to these opportunities and will be contacted whenever volunteers are needed. Volunteer shifts will open throughout the year on an as-needed basis.

What Will You Do?

Tasks and Responsibilities

Customer Service

  • Greet audience members when entering the building
  • Provide Pricing Information 
  • Answer Questions about the show

Order and Payment Processing  

  • Register Sales and Process Cash and Digital Payments using Square
  • Create Receipts 
  • Collect Merchant Copies
  • Itemize and total purchases by recording Cash Purchases 
  • Track Cash Flow – Balance cash by counting Cash Drawer at the beginning and end of shift  
  • Apply discounts to purchases by redeeming coupons
  • Process Refunds
  • Keep Track of Price Lists of all Events and Shows

Qualifications

Requirements

  • Ability to Manage Change 
  • Attention to Detail 
  • Ability and willingness to learn about the company  
  • Memorization skills of learning short scripts to greet audience members
  • Able to work directly with several people in a diplomatic fashion
  • Willingness to learn 
  • Willingness to fail 
  • Ability to use email and phone
  • Comfortability with handling cash (not necessary but it is a bonus)
  • Comfortability with handling complaints 
  • Reasoning and thinking on the spot

Skills

  • Communication skills (Must know how to speak basic English, knowledge of any other language is a bonus)
  • Basic Math Skills – Understanding basic Addition, Subtraction, Division and  Multiplication 
  • Using email
  • Using phone
  • Using Point of sale system (will be trained)
  • Handling cash and payments (will be trained)

Languages:

  • Basic English
  • Any other language is a bonus

Additional Requirements:

  • Will be required to abide by a dress code. Please wear all black unless asked otherwise. You may be provided additional items to wear over your clothes such as a t-shirt and lanyard.
