About Sage. An Interview with Sage.
Where Are You From Originally? What is your favourite thing about your home town?
I was originally born in Iran and raised in Tehran. My favourite thing about my hometown is something I can never retrieve, and that is my childhood and the friendships I had. At the age of seven, my mother introduced me to an Art Centre called the Centre for Intellectual Development of Children and Adolescents. It was there that I first discovered my passion for art and creativity and founds my best friends.
Writing became a significant part of my life, and I even won an award for a short story I wrote at the age of nine. As I grew older, I explored various artistic mediums, including creating my first stop-motion animation at eleven. Throughout my childhood, I continued to write stories and worked on puppetry plays, nurturing my love for the arts.
Do You Have A Favourite Book?
One of my all-time favourite books is “The Little Prince” by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. This enchanting story holds a special place in my heart because I feel an incredible connection to the character and have learned so much from it. “The Little Prince” is a timeless tale that explores themes of childhood, imagination, and the inevitability of growing up. The book beautifully reminds us of the importance of holding onto our innocence and sense of wonder, even as we navigate the complexities of adulthood. The universal messages of love, laughter, compassion, and companionship found in Saint-Exupéry’s work transcend time and touch the hearts of readers across different narratives. While I first encountered this book during my high school years, I never felt that it was written solely for children. Each time I revisit it, I discover new layers of meaning and take away valuable life lessons.
Do You Have Any Hobbies?
I absolutely love three hobbies that are an essential part of my life: reading books, watching movies, and going for long walks. These activities bring me relaxation, inspiration, and a way to express myself. When I read books or watch a movie, I embark on incredible mental adventures. They expose me to knowledge, imagination, and emotions.
Alongside reading and watching series, going for long walks is a hobby that allows me to reconnect with nature and myself. I am introverted. So sometimes all I need to spend some time alone with just myself. Walking in peaceful surroundings brings me a sense of peace and tranquillity. It’s a chance to reflect, clear my mind, and appreciate the beauty around me. Walking also keeps me active and promotes a healthy lifestyle.
What is Your Favourite Food?
My favourite food to eat is Manti. It is a delightful Turkish dish that combines yogurt, pasta, and fried tomato paste. As a vegan, I make a plant-based version of Manti, and I must say, it is absolutely delicious!
What is Your Favourite Meal to Cook? What is Your Recipe?
If You Could Travel Anywhere in the World Where Would You Travel?
I would go to Iceland. The concept of experiencing a silent day (there is a day in Iceland that everyone would go on silence fasting), where the entire country embraces stillness with no electricity or sound waves, is truly captivating. It is a unique opportunity to listen to the world in its purest form, immersing myself in the tranquillity and raw beauty of nature. The peacefulness and serenity of such an experience hold a profound allure for me.
We Are a Company That Speaks Many Different Languages. What languages do you speak?
I speak English, Farsi and Turkish.
What is a New Skill You Have Always Wanted to Learn?
I’ve always had a deep desire to learn how to play a musical instrument. The idea of creating beautiful melodies and expressing myself through music fascinates me. Playing an instrument not only engages the mind and enhances cognitive abilities, but it also has a profound impact on the soul. So far, I only can play Hang Drum.
What is one fun fact about yourself?
I was originally left-handed, but in school, I was forced to write with my right hand. So, I now do everything with my left hand except for writing, which I do with my right hand.
What is a Project You Were a Part of or Something That You Did Related to Theatre, That You Are Proud of?
I was part of a production for Luminato Theatre where I assisted my sister in creating a stunning, large-scale mask. The process of designing and crafting the mask was both challenging and rewarding. Seeing the final result on stage and witnessing how it enhanced the performance filled me with pride and a sense of accomplishment. It was a collaborative effort that showcased our creativity and added a visually captivating element to the production.
Why is Theatre Important?
Theatre is incredibly important because it lets us tap into human emotion in its purest form and immerse ourselves in live art on a profound level. Watching a play gives us a special chance to witness the authenticity and vulnerability of live performances, forging a strong connection with the emotions and stories unfolding before us. In today’s world, where technology reigns supreme, it’s crucial to give theatre the attention it deserves.
People are increasingly detached from the rawness of live performances and the power of experiencing genuine human emotions. Personally, I don’t want to see live performances fade away in the coming years, but it’s going to take a lot of support to keep them alive and thriving.
Do You Have Any Advice For Someone Aspiring to Be A Artistic Producer?
My advice for aspiring individuals entering the field of art is to never give up or lose hope. The art industry can be tough and overwhelming at times, and it may not always provide financial stability. However, remember that there is profound meaning behind every art piece. As artists, we have the opportunity to leave a remarkable mark on the world through our creativity and expression. While it’s important to be practical and manage your financial responsibilities, don’t let the pursuit of financial stability overshadow your artistic vision. Stay true to your passion and focus on growing and improving as an artist. Dedicate time to honing your craft, exploring new techniques, and expanding your artistic horizons.
Seek out opportunities to showcase your work, whether it’s through exhibitions, performances, or collaborations with other artists. Networking and building connections within the art community can also open doors to new possibilities and career advancements. Remember, success in the art field often comes with perseverance, resilience, and continuous learning. Embrace challenges as opportunities for growth and view setbacks as learning experiences. Stay curious, and open-minded, and always seek inspiration from various sources.
Never stop exploring, experimenting, and pushing the boundaries of your creativity. Ultimately, the most important aspect of being an artist is staying true to yourself and your unique artistic voice. Embrace your individuality, tell your stories authentically, and let your art reflect your experiences, beliefs, and emotions. The journey as an artist may have its ups and downs, but the fulfillment that comes from creating meaningful art is worth every challenge along the way.
